In early June five friends and I completed a charity horse trek of nearly 100 miles to raise money for Help for Heroes, the organisation which works to provide support and help to injured ex-service men and women.
We saddled up undertook the marathon ride over 5 days between Monday 6 June and Friday 10 June 2011 setting off from Oldham travelling the length of the Mary Townley Loop and part of the Pennine Bridleway and returning to Huddersfield.
We averaged around 20 miles a day, staying at local B&B’s and public houses along the way for sustenance and rest.
“This was a fantastic experience, riding on some superb bridleways in all weathers in the beautiful countryside. It would be great to see a similar circular route in Kirklees which would bring tourists into the area and boost our local economy. It was a wonderful but challenging way to raise money for such a worthwhile cause”.
We are anticipating having raised between £600 and £700 when all sponsorships have been received.
